BaseballSoftballUK announces Development Charter

Mon 10 Aug 2020

BaseballSoftballUK, the national development agency for the sports in the United Kingdom, today unveiled its Development Charter, a new resource for club and leagues. Coming a week after the launch of the new Two Sports, One Ambition Strategy, the Charter is a mechanism for any club or league to access development and safeguarding services from BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK). Signing up to the Charter is free of charge and is available to any baseball or softball organisation in the United Kingdom.

At the heart of the Development Charter, which extends BSUK’s development and safeguarding services to any organisation in either sport, is the hands-on support and guidance from BaseballSoftballUK’s team of relationship managers. Through the Charter, BaseballSoftballUK will support any baseball or softball club, team or league in becoming a safer, stronger and more sustainable grassroots organisation, connected to, and an important part of, its local community.

“I am delighted to be able to launch the BaseballSoftballUK Development Charter today,” said Chris Rawlings, BaseballSoftballUK’s Head of Development. “It is the culmination of some great work by the staff, represents a key piece of our recently-launched strategy, and is an organisational re-commitment to providing ongoing support services to all clubs and leagues.

“The Charter offers baseball and softball clubs and leagues a high quality, coherent programme of support and at its heart is discussion with and guidance from your relationship manager from BaseballSoftballUK. With support from the relationship managers, each organisation signed up to the Charter can access the expertise on offer from BaseballSoftballUK, including commercial partnerships, safeguarding and other resources."

Kevin Macadam of the British Baseball League endorsed the Development Charter, stating, “I hope that the British baseball community, regardless of their affiliation, gets behind this Charter. Here is an opportunity to take advantage of BSUK’s resources to help grow your organisations with their guidance.”

“The Charter resonates for us because of its continued emphasis on supporting our links across all three formats of the sports,” commented Julie Spittle, Chair of the Thames Valley Softball and Baseball Club. “The focus on grassroots, communication and collaboration with clubs is vital to the long-term health – and growth – of the sports.”

"With support from the relationship managers, each organisation signed up to the Charter can access the expertise on offer from BaseballSoftballUK including commercial partnerships, safeguarding and other resources."
