Great Britain Women’s Senior National Fastpitch Team Announces Roster And Staff For Women’s Softball European Championship 2024
1 September 2024
Great Britain Women’s Senior National Fastpitch Team Head Coach Tara Henry and the British Softball Federation have today announced the 15 players who will represent Great Britain at the 2024 Women’s European Softball Championship. The European Championships will be held in Utrecht, Netherlands from 1-7 September.
Great Britain will be defending their European silver medal earned at the 2022 European Softball Championships held in Sant Boi, Spain, the second in programme history (2009), and last competed at the 2023 Women’s Softball World Cup Pool A in Balbriggan, Ireland, defeating 2020 Tokyo competitors Australia and then-world ranked number 3 Chinese Taipei in consecutive games.
Great Britain will play in Group Y and will face Italy, Greece, and Israel to open the tournament, followed by two yet-to-be-determined opponents from Group C and Group B. Following the opening round, the top three teams from Group X and Group Y will advance to the Super Round to determine the top four teams, and who will challenge for the title of European Champion.
Athletes were selected in accordance with the British Softball Federation’s selection policy, which can be viewed here. The 15 members of the roster are as follows, with their UK home in brackets:
- Katie Burge (Twickenham, England)
- Jessica Chan (Manchester, England)
- Elena Clark-Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland)
- Georgina Corrick (Basingstoke, England)
- Kirsten (nee Mack) Dell (Edinburgh, Scotland)
- Cara Edwards (Southampton, England)
- Hannah Edwards (Southampton, England)
- Rebecca Faulkner (Kingston-upon-Thames, England)
- Amy Hartle (Nottingham, England)
- Amie Hutchison (Fakenham, England)
- Jahni Kerr (Chingford, London, England)
- Morgan Salmon (London, England)
- Alana Snow (Woking, England)
- Jenna Thompson (St. Helens, England)
- Tia Warsop (Northampton, England)
The European Championship roster returns several players from 2022’s silver-medal-winning European Women’s Championship team, while some players on the Senior roster will have represented Great Britain at three different age-group competitions this year, a sign of both the youth and veteran talent across the roster.
Corrick, who tossed a no-hitter against Germany during the 2022 Europeans, is coming off a fourth-place finish in the 2024 Athletes Unlimited AUX season, captaining Team Corrick during the final week and striking out 28 across 32 innings, good for third this season. In last year’s Softball World Cup Pool A, Corrick not only threw a perfect game against Ireland, but smashed a two-run home run to power Great Britain past Chinese Taipei in the tournament’s second game.
Head Coach Tara Henry commented, “This group is laying the foundation for the next Olympic cycle. Focused on process, development, and a strong belief in their journey, they embody what it means to be part of Great Britain Softball.”
Head of Performance Gary Anderson said, “At the start of the year we set ourselves a five year Olympic cycle to LA2028, we looked at what it will take to get to the Olympic Games and implemented a strategy, that included utilising players we have benchmarked for age and potential, which means once again we enter these championships with one of the youngest rosters. The important aspect for us as a programme is to ensure that we have the right process in place for the long-term objectives.”
