BSUK to launch new Hit the Pitch participation growth programme

Wed 18 Mar 2015

Hit the Pitch Baseball & SoftballBaseballoftballUK is making final preparations for the launch of Hit the Pitch, its new participation growth programme for baseball and softball.  There will be a formal launch event at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 1 April in Central London, preceded by regional events in Manchester, Guildford and Loughborough.

The launch of this new and comprehensive programme to grow participation in baseball and softball is a significant staging post in the work of BaseballSoftballUK, a call to arms for new players to get involved with our sports.

Hit the Pitch will be offered in Day, Team and League packages, with bespoke content and marketing for each of the seven target markets that have been identified: Companies, Higher Education, Further Education, Schools, Community Groups and Leisure Centres as well as existing clubs and leagues who may be looking to expand their current playing offer into a new team or a new local league.

BSUK Joint CEO John Boyd said: “Hit the Pitch sits at the very core of the vision of BaseballSoftballUK to see baseball and softball 'Played in Every Park'.  It aims to introduce both baseball and softball to new audiences in a fun and engaging way, allowing new participants to feel confident and relaxed as they choose to make the sports part of their lives.  We hope that Hit the Pitch will allow people who may not yet know that they want to play baseball or softball to gain something new and fresh in their lives.”

Launch events

The programme of launch events for Hit the Pitch will culminate in a drinks reception at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 1 April at Carluccio's flagship restaurant in London's Covent Garden.  Carluccio's is one of the latest companies to engage with softball and their company softball programme is now beginning to thrive.  Media representatives along with organisations that might be interested in utilising Hit the PItch are being invited.

Preceding this will be three regional events spread across the country to showcase the national appeal and reach of Hit the Pitch.  Local partners will be invited to each event to see practical showcases along with an opportunity to find out more about the programme.

  • The Manchester launch event will take place on Tuesday 31March, with a range of companies invited to attend an open door Hit the Pitch evening at the Soccerdome in Trafford.

  • On the same evening, the Guildford Mavericks Baseball Club will be staging an opening night for their Guildford Workplace Softball Series at Surrey Sport Park.

  • The following day, SportPark in Loughborough will host a come-and-try session aimed at new teams based at the park, who will be invited to have go in a batting cage.  The event is a forerunner for a potential new league to be based at SportPark.

BSUK National Development Manager Chris Rawlings, who has been a driving force behind the creation of Hit the Pitch, said: "The launch of this programme is a very exciting time for BaseballSoftballUK and the playing communities of both baseball and softball.  It marks the start of what will hopefully be an exciting summer in which many new players will come and choose our sports.  Hit the Pitch will be at the heart of our work at BSUK and we hope that it will have a significant impact on participation levels over the next couple of years.”
