North West Single-Sex Indoor Tournament dominated by University of Manchester
21 February 2023
The North West Series Single Sex Winter 2023 Indoor Tournament took place on a beautiful Saturday, 11th February, with eight teams competing across two categories.
Four male and four female teams entered the competition, contested under the BSUK Inclusive Rules, allowing non-binary players to join their preferred team.
The University of Manchester teams impressed - not only by flaunting their alma matter’s purple colours but showing how much they have improved on the field of play. BaseballSoftballUK Development Manager Luis Arrevillagas commented that "the University of Manchester really impressed this year - not only have they recruited an immense number of new players, but they have clearly coached them well. They’re really hard to beat."
Latinos -as always- brought their passion and flair to the tournament, however, the GB Thingys’ players managed to contain the Latin revolt.
The Teams and captains were:
- Thingys – Joe Grantham
- Latinos – Amilcar Gomez
- University of Manchester mew – Jeffery Fong
- Ultraman – Arthur Hung
The women’s side was won by the ever-disciplined Mavs who kept the Crazy Bats Ladies sane for the two innings final.
The teams and captains were:
- Mavericks – Emma Carruthers
- Crazy Bats Ladies – Katie Flannagan
- Maelstrom Ladies – Gabby Mannifield
- Lytham St Annes – Natalie Fox
The last tournament of the Winter 2023 season will be a mixed-sex competition, taking place on the 11th of March.
