Last year, BaseballSoftballUK and the British Softball Federation created two new competitions – the May Cup and June Cup – to create additional playing opportunities for slowpitch following the discontinuation of the Diamonds tournament at Farnham Park National Baseball & Softball Complex. After a historic year for the UK, the two tournaments return for 2023 under new names – the Coronation Cup, and the Jubilee Cup!

The Coronation Cup will take place over the 6-7 of May – the same weekend that the Coronation of King Charles III will occur in London. While royalty and dignitaries from around the world gather at Westminster Abbey to mark the start of Charles’ reign, softballers will converge in Farnham Royal to crown a new Cup Champion across three divisions!

The Jubilee Cup will be on 3-4 June, marking the bank holiday weekend that last year saw Queen Elizabeth II celebrate the Platinum Jubilee and 70 years on the throne. With Jubilees occurring in June as far back as 1897, during the reign of Queen Victoria, the Jubilee Cup will be an annual way to mark the reign of a new Cup champion!

Any profits generated from these events will be directly invested into the development of baseball and softball, including the day-to-day operation of Farnham Park, in line with BSUK’s mission and not-for-profit status.

Divisional rules

Each tournament is divided up by playing ability, with three levels at each competition.

In order to ensure the fairest playing experience for all, the following rules are in place regarding player eligibility for the Coronation and Jubilee Cup:

  • COMP has no player restrictions
  • B-grade means no more than one NSL1 player is allowed per team
  • Upper REC means no NSL1 players and a maximum of two NSL2 players per team
  • Lower REC means no NSL1 players and a maximum of one NSL2 player
