Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Introduction to Coaching Course required to take the CORE Coaching Course?
No - the Introduction to Coaching Course is designed for assistant coaches and those with little to no experience - think of it as an activator course. The CORE Coaching Course is for those with coaching experience and want to have the necessary qualification to lead baseball or softball sessions.

What happened to the Coach License and the previous Coaching Levels?
The Coachi License that was previously issued by BaseballSoftballUK will no longer exist; in its place, the Coach Membership will provide all of the same benefits and more. The previous coaching levels are being scrapped, with the Introduction to Coaching and the CORE Coaching Qualification replacing them, with the idea being that all coaches will have a minimum standard of training in lieu of a specific level of qualification.

Do I need any coaching experience to take the Introduction to Coaching course?
No prior coaching experience is required. This course is designed for anyone new to coaching baseball or softball, including volunteers, parents, and assistant coaches.

What do I need to complete the online courses?
You'll need access to a smart device with a stable internet connection. If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you will need the Moodle app, available in the app store. All course content is browser-based, no downloads or specialist software required.

Is there a deadline to complete the Introduction to Coaching course?
No, the course is fully self-paced. You can start anytime and complete it at your own speed. Most learners finish in 3–4 hours total.

What happens after I complete the Introduction to Coaching course?
You’ll receive a certificate of completion, and this qualification will be added to your Sport80 account. You will now be able to assist with running sessions and coaching under the supervision of a fully qualified Coach Member.

What is the timeline for the CORE Coaching Qualification?
After registering:

  • You complete a self-paced online module
  • Then attend a 1-day in-person practical workshop
  • Finally, return for an in-person assessment day, typically 6–8 weeks later
  • Dates are confirmed when you book your place.

Will I be a qualified coach after completing the CORE Coaching Qualification?

Completing the CORE course gives you the qualifications necessary to be an approved baseball or softball coach and opens up access to specialist CPD modules and further development. However, coaches must also have safeguarding training, a valid DBS, and a coach membership to be a recognised valid Coach.

I coach a specific group (e.g. youth talent or high performance). Will there be support for me?
Yes, upcoming CPD modules will provide specialist training for a range of coaching environments, including youth, adult, club, and elite levels.

How much do the Coaching Playbook courses cost?
Course prices vary depending on the course type and delivery method:

  • Introduction to Coaching (fully online, self-paced): £35
  • CORE Coaching Qualification (blended learning with in-person days): £200 total

We aim to keep all course fees as affordable as possible to support coaches across the country. In some cases, clubs, leagues, teams or local sport partnerships may help cover the cost. We recommend checking with your organisation before booking.

Can my club, league, or organisation host a Coaching Playbook course in our area?
Yes, in many cases, we can help arrange a course to be delivered locally for your group of coaches. This is especially useful for clubs, leagues, universities, or development programmes looking to train multiple coaches at once. Availability depends on tutor capacity, location, and demand, but we’re happy to explore the options with you, provided you have at least 10 participants.
