Workplace softball comes to Leicestershire and Rutland

Tue 27 May 2014

Slowpitch softball is to be part of a Workplace Challenge programme culminating in a Business Games competition in Leicestershire and Rutland over the next month.

The Workplace Challenge programme is a national health programme set up by the County Sports Partnership Network and funded by Sport England.  Its mission is to support UK employers to create work environments that encourage exercise through playing sport or other physical activity.

Leicester Challenge

Softball has been included in several Workplace Challenge activities around the country over the past year, and the latest example will be the  Leicestershire & Rutland Workplace Challenge softball competition, to be held on Tuesday 3 June from 6.30-9.00 pm at the University of Leicester.

The hope is that four to six company teams will take part and the main beneficiaries are expected to be the Leicester Royals Softball Club, who are hoping to gain enough players to add a third team to the club this year.

Kayleigh Green from the Royals said: “This is a great opportunity for Leicester Royals Softball Club to reach a new market of softball players.  By working in partnership with LRS County Sports Partnership and BSUK, we hope to achieve a step change in the way people experience our sport.”

Business Games

The various Workplace Challenge competitions being held across 22 businesses and a number of sports in Leicestershire and Rutland will culminate in a Business Games event on Friday 20 June from 5.30-9.30 pm at Charnwood College in Loughborough, where team T-shirts and a hog roast will be provided.

Along with softball, some of the other sports that will feature in the Games will be volleyball, badminton, football, dodgeball, basketball, kayaking, netball, touch rugby and beach volleyball.

Among the organisations taking part in Leicestershire and Rutland are Aviva, De Montfort University, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, Voluntary Action Leicester, Your Future Solutions and others.
