Record Numbers at Academy Softball session

Tue 15 Mar 2011

There was hardly room to put everyone -- especially on a cold March day when being outside for very long simply wasn't an option.

But there was a terrific buzz at Upper Heyford on Saturday, March 5, when a record number of players and coaches turned up for one of the last Academy Softball sessions of the winter.

Coming from Coventry

The numbers were bolstered by over 30 girls from two schools in Coventry who have just started to play the game and were trying out the Academy for the first time.

The Coventry girls, ranging in age from 11 to 17 but mostly beginners, joined in with younger players from the Under-13 Academy group in the morning; then the Under-16s and Under-19s trained in the afternoon.

Plenty of Coaches

At one stage, there were close to 60 players working on various skills and drills or playing indoor games -- but there were plenty of coaches to look after them.

Supervised by Academy Director Hayley Scott, the coaches included John Brown, Caroline Champion, Paul Cooper, Stan Doney, Moe Flett, Liz Knight, Robbie Robison, Danny Seton Jeremy Thomas and Joss Thompson.
