Academy Baseball is ready for the 2012 season

Thu 13 Oct 2011

Academy Baseball will begin its winter programme on Saturday, October 22 with a national practice session at the new National Training Centre at the MK Dons Academy Dome at Woughton-on-the-Green in Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire.

Academy Baseball is the premier winter baseball training programme available to all young athletes 10-25 and is the only winter training programme in the UK supported by Major League Baseball. Academy Baseball also offers a player development pathway to the Major League Baseball European Academy, which is attended by MLB scouts.

Opportunities

Academy Baseball provides an opportunity for young players to increase their knowledge and understanding of the game and offers them more chances to reach their full potential.

The programme offers players who have the appropriate level of commitment an opportunity to practice and improve their baseball skills with players who have similar levels of commitment, with quality coaches who follow a plan of continuous development and in a programme that recognises each age group's ability to learn different aspects of the game.

New facility

The 2011-2012 winter season will be the first for Academy Baseball at Milton Keynes, following the closure last spring of the long-time National Training Centre at Upper Heyford. The move represents a bright future for Academy Baseball, as Woughton-on-the-Green is currently the home of the MK Bucks Baseball Club, which provides the Academy with access to an adult baseball field as well as other amenities including a domed indoor football field, outdoor astroturf fields, changing rooms, a social area and meeting rooms.

It is hoped that continued development will lead to an outdoor training facility that Academy Baseball and Academy Softball as well as GB programmes in both sports can call home.

Online registration

New pricing structure

For the first time this year, Academy Baseball will allow players to choose a membership package suited to their financial and travel needs. A National Membership at £75.00 will enable players to attend all National and Regional practices across the UK. A Regional Membership at £55.00 will enable players to only attend regional practices. All memberships include a hat and T-shirt but other items can be purchased either at the time of registration or later.

The reason that the cost of a full Academy Baseball membership has gone up this year is due to increased costs associated with moving from Upper Heyford to the new facility in Milton Keynes, where usage rates per hour are higher.
