Schedule set for Farnham Park Opening Day
Fri 28 Jun 2013
BaseballSoftballUK has announced an exciting schedule of events for the official Opening Day at Farnham Park Sports Ground on Saturday 20 July to celebrate the creation of purpose-built baseball and softball diamonds on the site.
The diamonds have been in use since the first week of June, with much appreciation from users, but BSUK is keen to mark the construction of the first dedicated baseball and softball complex in the country with a special celebration to which everyone in the baseball and softball communities is invited.
The centrepiece on the day will be an Opening Ceremony on the main baseball field at 3.00 pm, which will be hosted by the BBC’s three-time Sony Gold-winning radio broadcaster, TV presenter and baseball fan Colin Murray.
There will also be plenty of events before and after the Opening Ceremony, which will be attended by a wide range of invitees and celebrity guests, and all three formats – baseball, slowpitch softball and fastpitch softball – will be showcased with marquee games in all three disciplines following the ceremony.
Meanwhile, over the course of both Saturday and Sunday, 20-21 July, the softball diamonds on site will mainly be occupied by one of the British Softball Federation's flagship events, the annual Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships, contested by men's and women's slowpitch teams from around the country.
The full schedule for the day on the three dedicated diamonds at Farnham Park is as follows:
1:00-2:30 pm – Academy Baseball session
2:30-3:00 pm – Schools Tee-ball session
3:00-3:30 pm – Opening Ceremony
3:30-6:00 pm – Baseball exhibition game: GB Lions v NBL All-Stars
Softball Field 1
9:00 am-3:00 pm – Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships
4:00-5:00 pm – Fastpitch softball exhibition game
5:00-6:00 pm – Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships
Softball Field 2
9.00 am-6.00 pm – Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships. At 4:00 pm, after the Opening Ceremony, a marquee men's slowpitch game from the Championships will be played on this field, featuring Godzillas v Guernsey.
In addition to games and events on the diamonds, there will be plenty of other attractions over the course of the day.
There will be a batting cage and pitching tunnel where you can try out your swing or see how fast you can throw on the radar gun. The Baseball Shop/The Softball Shop will also be at the event for you to purchase new equipment and there will be a full range of hot and cold catering as well as a bar selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Admission to everything on the schedule at the Farnham Park Opening Day is free – so make plans now to be part of a great baseball and softball celebration.
