Academy Baseball is looking for volunteer coaches

Fri 5 Oct 2012

Academy Baseball Needs YOU!!!

Academy Baseball will be starting its 2012-2013 season on Saturday, 20 October in Milton Keynes and the Academy is looking for more coaches.

Academy Baseball is dedicated to providing a quality winter training environment for all young baseball players, and part of ensuring this programme can be delivered is having high-quality and enthusiastic coaches to run the practices.

As well as delivering coaching sessions, there are additional opportunities for all coaches to continue their own development.  Whether it be through a mentorship programme or simply getting to work with some of the more experienced Academy Baseball coaches like MLB consultant Andy Bergland or GB National Team players and coaches, a tenure at Academy Baseball will definitely help you to become a better coach.

There are opportunities to coach both nationally and regionally.  There will be a total of six National Academy sessions at Milton Keynes (three before Christmas and three after) and four Regional sessions (two before Christmas and two after) in the North and South of England.  Coaches can attend as many or as few Academy Baseball practices as they are able to, but ALL COACHES, whether new or returning, are expected to attend the first National Academy session on October 20 at the National Training Centre in Milton Keynes, as there will be a coach-training meeting held prior to the practice session.

Shadow Assistant Coach opportunity

If you want to continue developing as a coach but are not yet confident enough to be a fully-fledged Academy Baseball coach, there is a programme that will suit you.  As a Shadow Assistant Coach, you will be paired up with one of the more experienced Academy coaches for a day, where you will able to learn at first hand how teaching and instruction at Academy Baseball is carried out.

There will be opportunities to:

  • Assist with certain drills by hitting fungos or throwing soft toss.

  • Practice more advanced coaching skills such as throwing batting practice and running position-specific workouts.

  • Sit in on coaches' meetings.

  • Ask coaches questions throughout the day.

  • Set up a development plan so that you can advance to be an Academy Coach.
