Season Wrap: Manchester Indoor Softball League Autumn 2019

Fri 6 Dec 2019

The Manchester Indoor Softball League Autumn 2019 season came to a close on Tuesday 3rd December. In Division 2, Drizzle did the double, claiming victory both in the League and the Cup. Meanwhile in Division 1, Mavericks took home the league winners trophy for the ninth time in 12 seasons. The Division 1 Cup title went to Mayhem, who beat Mavs 6-11 in the final.

The season, which ran from October through December, had its highest ever entry, with nineteen teams competing in the ten week league. League fixtures took place over six 4G five-a-side football pitches at Fives Trafford indoor soccer centre. Over the season, 439 games were played in total, with each team playing at least 44 games.

Final League Standings

The league had an exciting line up with new additions to the league such as All Stars in Division 1, and Ace of Base, Swingers, Bats Hit Crazy and Tiggers in Division 2.

Recruitment is rewarded by the Manchester Indoor Softball League organisers with luminous yellow wrist bands called rookie bands for anybody new to softball (or baseball) in the UK that double each wearer’s run count. Ace of Base benefited from the infamous rookie bands, racking up 422 runs over the course of the league.

On Tuesday 3 December awards were given to Rookies of the Year; Nikki (Swingers) and Mat (Rippers), while the Junior Players of the Year awards went to James (Ace of Base) and Evie (Tiggers).

More than 500 home runs were recorded over the season. Players with the most home runs over the season also took home an award each with chocolate for the leading men and women in each division. Congratulations to Kat, Jess and Shawn (Division 2) and Adam, Sherry and Jacqui (Division 1)

Linni Mitchell, BaseballSoftballUK North West Coach and Manchester Indoor Softball League organiser commented, “I’d say this was our most successful season to date. Every season I have to remind myself that we started this league with three teams back in 2014 and our intake has multiplied each season. We’re just happy to give people the opportunity to play through the Autumn & Winter months and we’ve had a tonne of new recruits coming through our doors this time around. The weekly rookies sessions, run on behalf of the Manchester Softball League have been great fun this season too.”

Luis Arrevillagas, North West Development manager said, “Indoor softball is so fast and fun to play,  we’re always looking for ways to improve the league. We want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Fives Trafford who donated four free-drinks per week for home run hitters and they're incredibly helpful every evening we play.  The complimentary chips were as popular as ever and teams loved the weekly pizzas provided by the venue. My idea of indoor softball, since we founded the league, has always been to provide an opportunity for baseball and softball players to keep game fit during the winter months but also to provide teams with a place where they can send their new recruits in the winter months, otherwise they'll lose them if asked to come back in March. Bring on Winter 2020!”

There is plenty more to come for the Winter 2020 season which kicks off on 14th January. If you are interested in joining the league please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
