Return to Play: Updated Guidance (24 September)
Thu 24 Sep 2020
We are pleased to be able to provide clarity on the impact of this week’s Government announcements for indoor baseball and softball activity in England, Wales and Scotland.
This update should be reviewed in conjunction with the Return to Play Plan for Indoor activity first published and communicated on 21st September and coming into effect today, 24th September.
England
Organised indoor sport is now restricted to 6 participants in total, including coaches. Activity can continue to take place with larger numbers present provided groups of more than six do not mix. If groups of six are likely to mix, activity must not go ahead. All activity must be formally organised and conducted under Government-approved guidance; that is to say, adhering to the protocols within BaseballSoftballUK’s Return to Play Plan.
Exemptions:
- Children who are under 18 years are not counted within the group size limit.
- Organised disability activity.
For more information, please read:
Wales and Scotland
Activity comprising training, coaching and games for up to 30 participants (including players, coaches, managers, umpires, organisers and volunteers) remains permitted.
Face coverings
Already mandatory in Scotland, they have become compulsory in Wales and must be worn before and after activity and when in non-playing areas of the facility. Exemptions for health conditions or certain disabilities remain. Face coverings remain strongly recommended in England.
General
If your sports club operates hospitality premises (eg, a clubhouse), there is new, non-sport specific guidance to be aware of, summarised in our documentation below.
Outdoor activity remains unaffected at this time in England, Wales and Scotland.
BaseballSoftballUK’s Return to Play hub has been updated throughout to reflect this new information, specifically:
- The Return to Play Plan: see the Game-specific table and Venue section.
- Participant Code of Conduct
- Risk Assessments – Fomite, Droplet, Population

As before, please be mindful of local and national Government advice and restrictions, subject to change at short notice, and we will continue to provide updates as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support in applying this guidance to help keep our baseball and softball community a safe one.
