Fun At Bat

Fun At Bat is an entry-level bat and ball programme for kids with an emphasis on character development, functional movement, active play and fun. It comprises a series of resources and a baseball/softball equipment pack for schools to use. It will be used with Key Stage Two pupils – particularly those in Years Five and Six.

The Fun at Bat programme was originally conceived by USA Baseball following meticulous research on introductory youth sport programs and is supported by Major League Baseball and industry professionals. USA Baseball is the national governing body for amateur baseball. It represents the sport in the United States as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and internationally as a member federation of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

MLB Legacy Events

During the events leading up to Mitel & MLB Present London Series 2019 between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, we were delighted to partner with MLB and USA Baseball to offer Fun At Bat to primary schools in the UK. With the MLB Series hitting London in both 2019 and 2020, we've already seen an upsurge of interest in baseball and softball.  Fun At Bat is just one of the legacy plans that BaseballSoftballUK is working on -- for details of others, please click here.

The launch of the Fun At Bat programme took place at the Manor Junior School on 27 June, with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, USA Baseball Chief Development Officer Rick Riccobono, Premier Education Group Partnership Manager Jane Hannah, and BaseballSoftballUK CEO John Boyd in attendance. Programme Delivery

Through our partnership with Premier Education Group, BaseballSoftballUK delivered baseball/softball to 50 primary schools in the summer of 2019 as part of the MLB London Series legacy plans. Premier Activity Professionals delivered curricular and extra-curricular sessions and festivals for each of the 50 schools involved in the programme.

Curricular: Delivery of six curriculum sessions to each school by Premier Activity Professionals using Fun At Bat resources. The lessons will focus on teamwork, responsibility, leadership, honesty, helping others, and being supportive. The programme aims to create an environment that produces healthy and well-rounded young people.

Extra-Curricular: Each school will establish an extra-curricular baseball club where students will be taught the fundamental skills of baseball over a four week period.

Festivals: The summer will culminate in an inter-school baseball/softball festival involving participating schools in the Fun At Bat programme.
