League Information

League Name: BBF Pony - South
Players in the Pony leagues are between 13 and 16 years old. To find information on a team, click on its name in the league standings.

Teams are positioned in the standings above based on awarding 3 points for a win and one for a loss (note two points will be awarded for a tie).

League rules of note

Final Conference Standings

Games counting towards the Final Conference Standings will be the games which take place between the six Pony teams and five Bronco teams playing in the June / July round robin; that is, the yellow games on the schedule. The results of those games will also determine the Conference Champions.

The League Commissioner will keep manual standings of the relevant games in June and July and publish those standings weekly to all teams.

There are no specified rain-dates in the schedule. If any games in June and July fall foul of the weather the following process will be used to establish the results to be used to determine the Final Conference Standings:
(i) If both teams are willing and able to reschedule then that will be permitted. I should point out that I think this will be unlikely because of time factors but that will be an option; neither team will be pressured into doing this.
(ii) The results of the last two games between the teams in the yellow May round-robin (if they played) will be used.
(iii) The results of the last two games between the teams in the blue April round robin (if the teams played) will be used.
(iv) The results of the last two games between the teams during the pink friendly weeks (if the teams played) will be used.
(v) The teams will be awarded one win each.
If other games, outside the June/July yellow round robin are rained out then teams will be awarded one game each unless the teams are able to re-arrange.

Seeding

The 1st and 2nd placed teams in the Final Conference Standings will be denoted the first and second seeds respectively for any play-off tournaments and, if playoff tournaments are not possible, the National Championships as per the handbook. The first and second seeds will be kept separate in playoff tournaments and, if it is necessary to favour a team or teams to fit a tournament into a day these seeded teams will be the teams favoured.

The process for seeding other teams involved in the playoffs will be based on the results of their games and on the strength of teams they played. We will initially have at our disposal to assist with this process the Final Conference Standings and these teams' results against teams within the conference standings. These seedings will not be produced until it is known which teams which wish to participate in the playoffs, which will be established at the season is completed.

Forfeits

If a team is deemed to have forfeited a league game, the result will be recorded as a loss for the forfeiting team and win for the opposition team. The scoreline will award one run to the winning team for every inning of the regulation-length game (e.g. 7-0 in a seven inning game; 9-0 in a nine-inning game).

BBF league rules state that for every two league games a team forfeits within a single season it will have one win deducted from its current season win-loss record and converted into a loss by way of penalty.

The penalty will be applied immediately in the standings (as opposed to at the end of the season). If a team has not won any games prior to incurring the penalty, it will remain on 0 wins in the standings. The penalty will be applied as soon as the team records a win later in the season.

Tiebreaker Rule

[2008 BBF Handbook Section 4.6]

Two or more teams are deemed to be tied when they either have identical win-loss records or have played an unequal number of games but there is no difference between their games-back column. Please note that runs-for, runs-against and runs-difference are not taken into consideration at this point.

In either case, the tie would be broken by using the following criteria in the order given:

1. The team that has forfeited the fewest number of games during the season is placed first, the team that has forfeited the next fewest number of games is placed second and so on.

2. If still level, then the head-to-head results between the tied teams should be used to establish
placings.

3. If still level, then the team that has conceded the fewest runs in games between or among the tied
teams is placed first, the team that has conceded the next fewest number of runs in those games
is placed second, and so on.

4. If still level, then the number of runs per game conceded by the tied teams across the whole of
the league season should be used to determine placings.

More detail and an overall list of BBF rules can be found in the BBF Handbook and Byelaws in the Downloads section of the site.
