Softball 4 Beginners off to a great start in Milton Keynes

Tue 31 May 2011

Following on from successful "Baseball 4 Beginners" and "Softball 4 Beginners" courses recently run by the London Mets Baseball Club and the Bristol Softball Association, the Milton Keynes Bucks Baseball Club recently decided to run their own version in a bid to increase membership and ultimately become a baseball and softball club.

Club Chairman Jon Reynolds said, “We have considered becoming a baseball and softball club at some point in the future and view softball as a more accessible entry point for people who are new to the game. This course is as much about raising awareness as it is recruiting new players and softball can widen our appeal to a larger network.”

Social media

In partnership with BaseballSoftballUK, the MK Bucks used Facebook, local media, the BSUK website and their own network of friends and work colleagues to drive participation.  And at the first session on Friday evening, May 27, there were over 20 new 16+ participants, many of whom were playing softball for the first time.

Jon Reynolds hopes that the new softballers enjoyed themselves so much that they will be back -- hopefully bringing a friend or two.

“I'm delighted with how the first session went," he said, "and it was great to see so many people out playing softball who wouldn't normally give the game a second thought. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and said they were looking forward to the next week, so I'm confident we will have a high retention rate. As word spreads and with recruitment continuing, we look forward to growing the numbers over the next few weeks.”

Future sessions

The Milton Keynes "Softball 4 Beginners" course will continue for the next nine weeks on Friday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Woughton-on-the-Green Pavilion, Milton Keynes, MK6 3EA.

There is a registration cost of £10.00 plus £2.00 per session attended.

Anyone interested in attending should email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or visit the MK Bucks website.

Alternatively, prospective players can contact BSUK Midlands Regional Coach Will Lintern through the BSUK website or follow him on Twitter.
