Second Sport England grant for Sefton Softball League

Fri 23 May 2014

The new Sefton Softball League on Merseyside has received a second Sport England Small Grant, this time for £9341, to be used for equipment, facilities, umpire training and marketing.

The league, which was started by BaseballSoftballUK as Sefton Softball, then formed the successful Sefton Sharks team, is now a strong indoor and outdoor league with a bright future.  The league has plans to increase participation significantly in the area and to develop a youth section.

Helping hands

BSUK's Development Manager for the North West, Luis Arrevillagas, said: “I am really excited for the league and for the people that run it.  The thing that impresses me about the Sefton Softball League is that it is not just one individual pushing for the league to get better; there are at least 10 people that I can think of providing help at every turn, which has helped them to make the case for this sort of grant.

“Softball is a great product,” Luis added, “and organisations such as Sport England are recognising that it is a sport that really caters for everyone – and in some cases changes lives.”
