Players from HPA Baseball attend MLB European Elite Camp tryouts

During the second week of May, 10 players from BSUK’s Baseball High Performance Academy (HPA) travelled to Toulouse in the south of France to try out for a place at Major League Baseball’s European Elite Camp.
The MLB European Elite Camp will feature the top young players aged 15-19 from across Europe and will take place at the Vaessen Pioneers facilities in Hoofddorp, Netherlands from 2-21 August. Last year Jonathan Fretheim, a member of BSUK’s HPA and Academy Baseball programmes as well as a catcher for GB Baseball, attended the camp, and it is hoped that more players from the UK will be selected in 2015.
The 10 players from the HPA selected to attend the MLB tryouts were:
BSUK National Development Manager Will Lintern said: “Our players performed extremely well at the tryouts. There was a marked improvement from previous years and their ability to hold their own against the French and Spanish Academies is a testament to the hard work that they have put in over the winter at the High Performance Academy.”
MLB Academies Tournament
Earlier in the year, Jacob Dean and Jonathan Fretheim represented the UK at the MLB European Academies Tournament. Both were members of the European All-Stars team that played against Academies from Holland, Italy, Germany, France and the Czech Republic.
GB and HPA pitching coach Zach Graefser also attended the tournament as a pitching coach for the European All Stars.
High Performance Academy
The HPA Baseball programme is currently on its summer break as players compete for their clubs and Great Britain.
