National University Conference set for 30 September in Birmingham

Wed 13 Sep 2017

The third University Baseball and Softball Conference, hosted by BSUK, will be held on Saturday 30 September at the Holte School, Birmingham.

The day will offer an opportunity for those involved -- or wanting to become involved -- in baseball or softball within the university environment to get together and share ideas about the growth of the sports in this sector.

Training in various areas will be provided in a series of workshops, and for those who are not currently qualified, BSUK will also be running an Activator Course on the day.

This course is designed to teach people how to engage players of all abilities, keeping sessions fun and focusing on participation through challenges and mini-games as well as carrying out skills development.

BSUK can offer places to two people from each university to attend, but as the date approaches extras spaces may open up.

University Softball and Baseball Officer programmes

The University Softball Officer (USO) programme came from an idea put forward in 2011 by the BSUK Youth Panel (now called the BSUK Future Leaders).  Shortly afterwards, the University Baseball Officer (UBO) programme began, providing similar benefits to those who wanted to develop baseball within their universities.

Since 2009, the university sector has grown from five teams to the point where there are now over 1,000 participants.  BSUK hopes that the conference will provide support to USOs and UBOs to maintain growth and sustain the current teams.

What do you need to do now?

  • Click here to register for the Conference, and please let us know about any dietary requirements that you may have.  Registration will close at 23:00 on Sunday 24 September.
  • Talk to any previous USO or UBO at your university to find out about any problem or concerns that they may have run into, so you can bring these to the meeting.
  • Book your return train/coach ticket to Birmingham, as travel is often cheaper when booked in advance.  The full address of the venue is: Holte School, Wheeler Street, Birmingham B19 2EP.
  • You will need to bring sports clothing and, if you prefer to bring your own equipment for the Activator Course, please do so, although equipment will be provided.
