Latinos best Dodgers in Manchester Indoor Softball Tournament

Wed 4 Dec 2019

The sixth Manchester Indoor Softball Tournament took place in Manchester at Fives Trafford on Saturday 30th November. Hosting fourteen teams, the tournament, which kicked off at 1 pm, was a demanding day for the teams, who each played a minimum of twelve games  - and the finalists playing thirteen.

The format for the day consisted of a round robin group stage, with each team playing six games against their group. In Group A, the Spittin’ Camels finished the group stage with the best record, tallying five wins and a loss, whilst Group B saw a three-way tie between the Mavericks, Latinos and Drizzle, all with the same record of five and one. Group B's final places were therefore decided on runs conceded. The top seven teams from the group stage then went to play in the Cup tournament, whilst the bottom seven teams played for the Plate.

The third place Plate final was a tense affair with both the Leeds Bobcats and Ace of Base tied with 12 runs after the seven minute inning. A tie breaker was played with ten batters stepped up to the plate, and Ace of Base secured their first silverware of their debut indoor season by scoring 3 runes to the Bobcats’1. In the Plate final, the Humpin’ Camels were victorious over Rippers.

In the Cup final, Latinos’ Luis Arrevillagas smashed a home run in the bottom of the sole inning, stealing the first place trophy from Travelling Dodgers while Mavericks beat Tigers to earn third place.

Linni Mitchell, BaseballSoftballUK North West Coach said. “We want to say a big thank you to all the teams that continue to support our bi-annual indoor tournaments, especially those who travel from far and wide to play. As always, thanks to our umpires who are so fantastic at officiating the fast-paced games. And a big congratulations to Ace of Base who came away with third place in the plate which is a magnificent feat in their first ever indoor tournament.”

Luis Arrevillagas, Regional Development Manager commented, “Everyone had a great time, its great to play so many games in a tournament and great value for money for teams. We’re happy to welcome both comp and rec teams, giving comp teams chance to show their expertise and rec teams soak it up, improving throughout the day. These types of tournament give new players the opportunity to learn and practise their skills - we had a young player called James Warren hit two home runs on the day and he was over the moon, as was his father David who was playing on the same team.”

Don’t miss out on the next tournaments:
22nd February - Manchester Single Sex Indoor tournament
14th March - Co-Ed Winter Tournament
