Join the WBSC in honouring Sport for Development and Peace

Wed 14 Mar 2018

The World Baseball Softball Confederation is asking baseball and softball communities around the world to take action to support the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace that will be recognised on Friday 6 April 2018.

This International Day was established in 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly and the International Olympic Committee, and is run through the organisation Peace and Sport (www.peace-sport.org) under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

There are two key ways to support the day:

1) Join the #WhiteCard campaign by taking a picture of yourself, or better still your team, holding up a white card, like a referee’s card in football, and post it on social media with the hashtag #White Card.

The #WhiteCard is a recognised symbol of the Peace-Through-Sport movement and represents positivity and constructiveness in sport.  It is a gesture of inclusion, tolerance and peace.  Participating in this digital campaign means you share the vision that sport can drive social change and community development around the world.

2) Organise a sporting activity or event on Friday 6 April, or perhaps on the weekend following, to celebrate the International Day and the Peace-Through-Sport movement, and register your activity on the website www.april6.org to be part of the global network honouring this important day.  Please also send details of your activity to info@bsuk.com.

Your #WhiteCard photos and/or your event to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace must be posted or registered by Wednesday 28 March.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, in a letter to baseball and softball federations around the world, has said: “For 2018, the WBSC is looking forward to collecting as many pictures as possible from its members and creating a single image which will represent the global strength of our sport.  It is a simple initiative which requires no time and cost, but if successful can send a powerful and important message.”

As baseball and softball join forces around the world under the leadership of the WBSC, it would be good for the sports in Britain to be well represented in the celebrations on 6 April.  Let’s see what you can do!
