    Baseball and softball to be included on School Games menu

    BSUK is delighted to announce that baseball and softball will both be included on the menu for the government’s School Games initiative from January 2012 onwards. The School Games is designed as “a celebration of competitive sport” that will involve all young people in Years 3 to 13, regardless of ability or background.

    London Indoor Softball to start October 8

    The Softball Nationals and World Series have come and gone, but the damp, cold autumn weekends needn’t be a downer for London’s softball fanatics. BSUK’s London Indoor Softball will kick off again from Saturday, October 8.

    Trainee Community Coach completes a successful six months in the North West

    Baljit Ahluwalia was employed by BSUK from March to September this year via the Future Jobs Fund programme as a Community Baseball and Softball Coach, working mainly in Greater Manchester. The placement has now come to an end, but both Baljit and BSUK’s North West Regional Development Manager Luis Arrevillagas can look back on a very successful project.

    Softball World Series to feature “Battle of the Sexes”

    An exhibition game with a difference will be a feature at the 2011 Softball World Series, scheduled for the BA Concorde Club on the weekend of September 10-11. A team of women, some from the GB Slowpitch squad, will take on a strong men’s team in an attempt to win the Battle of the Sexes and raise money for GB Slowpitch.

    Preparation starts now for the next Whole Sport Plan

    Since 2009, BaseballSoftballUK has been funded in large part by Sport England through the Whole Sport Plan system, which provides financial support for development on behalf of the British Baseball and Softball Federations.

    “Softball 4 Beginners” sessions to start in Birmingham

    A six-week programme of “Softball 4 Beginners” sessions will be run by the Birmingham Bobcats in partnership with BSUK and Sportivate, starting on September 1.

    Leeds Softball Association to host charity tournament and open day

    The Leeds Softball Association will host the Girlsball Tournament on the Sunday 4 September 2011 at Wellington Place, Leeds. The charity competition is in support of Breast Cancer Haven Leeds, and will be accompanied by an open day of fun softball activities for newcomers to the sport.

    Torbay Barons are the newest member of baseball’s growing community

    The Torbay Barons Baseball Club has become the newest member of the British baseball community after getting themselves up and running at their new home at Clennon Valley Playing Fields in Paignton, Devon.

    BSUK teams up with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation for Coach Education Session

    At the end of July, BaseballSoftballUK teamed up with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to deliver a coach education bolt-on session for qualified football coaches.  Patrick Knock, BSUK’s Regional Development Manager for London and the South East, has been working with the foundation to create a partnership enabling BSUK to deliver baseball and softball in more communities and to expand its coaching workforce.
