    New Level 2 coaches to swell coaching resources in the North

    Twenty-three potential new Level 2 baseball and softball coaches have attended courses at The Hough End Centre in Manchester over the last three weekends in March, and as a result, coaching resources in the North are set to be significantly increased.

    BSUK invites applications for facility grants

    BaseballSoftballUK is inviting applications from the baseball and softball communities for facility grants for projects that can be completed by March 31, 2012. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2011, and all of the relevant documents—application form, guidance notes and pre-application checklist—can be downloaded from this website.

    Softball photo contest will run again in 2011

    The second annual British Softball Photography Competition, run by the BSF and BSUK, will be staged in 2011 with an exciting change to the way the competition will be judged. This year, the judging panel will determine a shortlist, but the winning photos will be chosen by online public vote.

    Update on BSUK Point System for supporting clubs and leagues

    London Fastpitch Softball League to expand to 12 teams and two divisions this year

    The London Fastpitch Softball League, which began in its current form last year with just five teams, is expanding to 12 adult teams and two divisions in 2011. Division 1 will consist of three men’s and three women’s teams while Division 2 will have six co-ed teams.

    Sportivate to provide sporting opportunities for teenagers and young adults

    A new Sport England initiative called Sportivate will give young people aged between 14 and 25 the chance to receive six-to-eight weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice and will support them to continue playing sport in their community after the coaching period ends.

    BSUK Youth Panel to promote its activities and the sports through social media

    Members of the BSUK Youth Panel, meeting in London on March 5, have decided to promote and publicise baseball and softball in general, and Youth Panel activities in particular, through BSUK’s website and electronic publications and a range of social media.

    Sport England survey confirms rise in baseball and softball participation

    Information released by Sport England on March 17 has confirmed that adult participation in baseball and softball is continuing to rise and that BSUK is currently on track to meet its Whole Sport Plan participation targets.
