BBF Board Appoints 3 New Members

In the wake of resignations from the BBF Board by Kevin Macadam and Gary Roberts, the current Executive have co-opted three new members to fill board positions up to the AGM in January 2004.

The BBF Consitution requires that the Board has a minimum of six full members in order to operate, and allows for the existing Board members to invite others to fill these positions on an interim basis.

The three that has been asked to join the BBF Board are as follows:

Ian Cox
Ian Cox is the manager of the Richmond Knights and Treasurer and Committee Member for the Richmond Organisation. Ian has harboured a long interest in baseball but only got round to joining a team in 2000, quickly realising what he had been missing and getting involved in all levels of the Richmond organisation.

Ian is also a member of UBUA-UK and is looking forward to becoming a qualified umpire, admitting that his only talent on the field is likely to be behind the plate.

When asked about his appointment to the BBF Board, Ian replied:

"My main priority is really to ensure that the views and opinions of the Southern Conference teams are accurately represented at the BBF Board level. I hope that, as a player and an umpire, the southern teams will freely discuss issues they have with me to allow me to communicate that to the governing body. I'm looking forward to the first board meeting ratifying my appointment and role and then I'll be able to start talking to the teams, players and other interested bodies."

Ian Marchment

Ian Marchment was interested in baseball throughout his youth, but initially played American Football. At university, he soon realised that the physical requirements of football were beyond him. Together with a housemate, he resurrected the then-defunct university baseball team, thanks to the ongoing support of a local bank manager, Kevin Macadam. He also held a position on the Athletic Union Council during his time as President of the Baseball Club.

Post-1997, Ian was part of the formation of Manchester Baseball Club, and has been a player for MBC ever since, progressing to the manager’s post from 2000-2002. After stepping down as A's manager, Ian is currently MBC Club Secretary, and still plays.

During the 2003 season, he submitted articles to Double Play magazine and was integral in the organisation of the Northern Tournament this September.

On his appointment:

“I am very excited at being asked to join the BBF Board. I'm looking forward to the challenges involved, and bringing the voice of the North to the meeting table.”

Darik Miles

A longstanding youth baseball coach, currently with Bracknell Baseball Club. Darik is currently the General Manager for the GB Juveniles.

All three have agreed to join the Board effective immediately, and a Board meeting will be held shortly which will include discussions of the roles they will fill.
