Welcome to the 2012-2013 Academy season.
The Academy Softball programme is designed to assist players' growth and development in all areas of their game. Players in each age group will be evaluated on entry, and will work towards individual targets and goals throughout the Academy Softball season to help them focus their winter training and gain maximum results from this key development time.
All age groups will train separately with a Head Coach and support coaches assigned to each group who will keep the activities fun, varied and game-like. The Head Coaches at the Academy are BSUK coaches Stan Doney and Liz Knight, and instruction will be given by a variety of highly-qualified coaches, including coaches from the Great Britain National Teams programme.
Specialist attention and special programming will be provided for pitchers and catchers during the course of the Academy season, with additional training during Regional Academy sessions. Regional Academy sessions will be based in the South (probably London) and the North (in Nottingham) to support local players in a smaller group setting (specific venues to be confirmed).
The Academy programme has been overhauled to target players' needs
The Academy Softball programme is designed to support softball in the GCSE PE curriculum to add further value to students who have specialised in physical education at school or college. Strategy and classroom-based training will be built into the programme over the course of the winter.
Each National Academy day will be structured with staggered starts based on specific age groups:
Under-13: 13:00-16:00
Under-16: 13:00-16:00
Under-19/Under-25: 16:00-19:00
Players should arrive at the venue no later than 30 minutes prior to the session start time.
Dates for Regional Academy sessions are given below, but times still remain to be confirmed.

Northern Regional Academy sessions will be held at the Fire Service Headquarters, Bestwood Lodge, Arnold, Nottingham NG5 8PD from 1-4pm. Sessions will be held outside so please bring wet weather clothing with outside trainers.
Southern Regional Academy sessions will be held at St. Mary's University College, Waldegrave Road, Strawberry Hill, Tickenham, TW1 4SX. Sessions will be held indoors in the tennis hall from 1-3pm.
